who da fuck is MAD EYE?
In 1993, Los Angeles was restless. The streets whispered opportunity and danger, both carried on the hiss of spray cans. Dirk met a Guy there, painting a wall beneath a broken streetlight. They didn’t speak much, not at first. But their lines met, colors blending. By the end of the night, they knew they’d paint again.
Berlin came in 1994. Cold War was just over and the walls came for free. He and Anthony “Toons” Martin found a place in an old Factory right in the Center of “East” Berlin. They called it Mad Eye Studio. It wasn’t much, but it was theirs. They painted since they were kids, but now they tried to make a living out of Graffiti and. Soon interior Design came.Club Design. Bars. Restaurants. Streetwear shops , then MTV Studios got Designed. They worked late into the night, the air sharp with paint fumes and ambition.
The 2000s rolled in loud and fast. Flyers spilled across the desk, each one louder than the last. Album covers stacked high, the smell of ink thick in the air. Posters and magazine ads filled the walls, bright and sharp. Sometimes, a music video. Short, fast, like graffiti on a screen. They got hired as Curators for the Academy of Arts other big Houses.
Dirk wanted to know more, to build more, to go further. Production Designer Peter Weber and Isa Ott taught him. They didn’t talk much about art—they showed it. Tools in hand, materials spread out like a feast. He learned how to make things real, to shape a vision from wood and steel. Learned from the best.
In 2015, he stepped onto a film set, not as an assistant, but as a Production designer. Mad Eye was still his name, his mark. Only now, it was MAD EYE FILMWORKS. The sets grew bigger, the stories more complex. But it was still about lines meeting, colors blending.
The walls are higher, the lights brighter, but the work is the same. It begins with an idea, raw and restless, and it grows. Like a tag on a blank wall.
Hi, I am Dirk Behrend, an international working Production Designer. I find the so-called ‘impossible’ particularly delicious. For me and my Team, there’s method to our madness and it’s been tried and tested on all kinds of (un)realities.
We know what you’re up against and welcome all challenges.
From treatment to shoot, we got your back.
After all, don’t we all love a happy ending?
Dirk Behrend
